Baby Delivered During Nor’Easter In Westchester

A new baby boy came screaming into the world with a little help from firefighters as the season's first Nor'easter hammered the area. With the extreme weather, an ambulance could not reach the home where the mother was in labor, so Yonkers firefighters from Engine 307 stepped in and delivered the little one safely around 6:22 p.m. Thursday, according to Deputy Chief Daniel P. Flynn.

A member of the Genevose Crime Family of La Cosa Nostra already charged with the stabbing death of a Westchester man is now facing new charges for destroying evidence and obstructing justice, prosecutors announced. John Tortora Jr., known as "Johnny T," was arrested in August by FBI agents and Yonkers Police in connection with the 1997 death of 29-year-old Richard Ortiz in Yonkers.

The 35-year-old man who injured a family of six after slamming his SUV into their car driving the wrong way on the Bronx River Parkway in February has been arraigned in Westchester County Court. Manhattan resident Diego Caceres was arraigned on Wednesday, Nov. 14, stemming from the head-on collision on the parkway in Yonkers that left several people hospitalized.

Gloversville man named outstanding adult learner

Youssouph Seydi, who recently earned his high school equivalency diploma through the Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery Board of Cooperative Educational Services' adult education program, has been named a 2018 outstanding adult learner by the New York Association of Continuing/Community Education, according to a news release. Born in Senegal, Seydi immigrated to the United States in 1994 and for the next 22 years lived and worked in Yonkers, the Bronx and Putnam County supporting his family in America and his parents and siblings, who remained in West Africa.
