NYSERDA and NYSDOT Launch Tri-City Competition to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions Over Two Years in Westchester New Rochelle, White Plains and Yonkers employees to lead by example to reduce driving in the State's first Green Cities Commuter Challenge The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority , New York State Department of Transportation and three Westchester mayors launched the first Green Cities Commuter Challenge to see which city can reduce greenhouse gas emissions the most over the next two years. By leading by example by directly promoting a reduction of driving by city employees to and from work, the cities are helping the state meet its goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40 percent by 2030.

Astorino Promotes Free Summer Vaccine Clinics

Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino is reminding residents that health department vaccine clinics are open on Fridays all summer long to help families prepare for jobs, camp and the next school year. The Westchester County Health Department will provide free immunizations by appointment on Fridays in White Plains and Yonkers to adults, children and students of all ages who are uninsured or whose insurance doesn't cover vaccines.

Driver Gets Prison In Wrong-Way Crash That Killed NYPD Detective

NYPD Detective Paul Duncan was killed in a crash on the Sprain Brook Parkway on Friday, Feb. 27. WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. - A Westchester County driver will spend four to 12 years in prison for a high-speed, wrong-way parkway crash that killed an NYPD detective. Acting Westchester County District Attorney James A. McCarty says Efren Moreano of Yonkers was sentenced Wednesday in the February 2015 death of Detective Paul Duncan.

Suburban NYC county official to resign, law change mulled

Officials say a suburban New York City commissioner is resigning, and now local lawmakers must decide whether to waive a law that bars county workers from joining companies for at least a year if those companies work with the county. A spokesman for Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino tells the Journal News in White Plains that public works and transportation commissioner Jay Pisco will resign on July 1. Pisco has requested a waiver so he can work with Holzmacher, McLendon and Murrell Consulting Engineers, which has two agreements for work at wastewater-treatment plants in Yonkers and Port Chester.
