Coyote Killed In Westchester Tests Positive For Rabies

The Westchester County Department of Health determined on Saturday that the coyote killed in the area of the Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers earlier this week has tested positive for rabies. This coyote, including a second coyote observed traveling with it, is suspected of multiple biting attacks in Yonkers and the surrounding jurisdictions, including Hastings-on-Hudson, over the past several days, Yonkers Police said.

One Dangerous Coyote At Large, Another Killed In Southern Westchester

While one coyote has been dealt with in Yonkers after attacking several people and killing a small dog in Greenburgh, police are warning about a second that they are tracking down who could be a danger in the area. The Yonkers Police Department issued an alert late on Thursday evening about the coyote, which remains at large, as members of the Emergency Service Unit work with members of the Westchester Department of Public Safety in an attempt to locate it.

The Westchester County Department of Health is alerting residents that a coyote has attacked people and pets in the vicinity of Kent Ave, Overlook Drive and Clarewood Drive in Hastings-on-Hudson and the Homefield section of Yonkers. The Health Department is notifying residents in the area to not approach the animal, to contact police if they see it and to take precautions with pets.

Coyote Ugly: New Westchester Attack Reported

A new coyote attack has been reported in Westchester County, after the animal took a swipe at a woman riding her bike in Yonkers on Thursday afternoon, according to multiple reports. A coyote lunged at the woman riding on the Westchester County Bike Trail near Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 1. The attack comes on the heels of three other coyote attacks that have been reported in two days in Hastings-on-Hudson and Yonkers.

Yonkers Man Arraigned In Connection To Fatal Armed Robbery

A 31-year-old Westchester man is facing a murder charge for his role in the fatal shooting of a 30-year-old Yonkers resident late last year. Charles Burks of Yonkers was arraigned this week on a murder charge following an investigation into the shooting death of Dymere Graham on Dec. 7 last year, according to the Westchester County District Attorney's office.

Federal charges have been dropped against a Westchester County neurologist who was among six charged in an alleged $57 million health care fraud scheme that spanned more than a decade. The U.S. Attorney's Office has dropped the case against Emad Soliman, a New Castle resident who practices in Yonkers who had been charged in an alleged 12-year-scheme to "defraud Medicaid, Medicare and other private health insurance companies out of more than $50 million."
