It’s Killian Against Mayer In Special Election For Latimer’s Senate Seat

Former Rye councilwoman Julie Killian will make a second attempt at the 37th District Senate seat vacated by George Latimer when he became Westchester County executive. Killian, who ran an unsuccessful challenge to Latimer in 2016 will face Democratic Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer of Yonkers during a special election on April 24. Republican Party members chose Killian, who served six years as a Rye city councilwoman, over former Yonkers inspector general Dan Schorr of White Plains during a small GOP convention at Westchester Manor on Wednesday.

Man Arraigned On Murder In Death Of Yonkers Teen Run Down On Sidewalk

A 23-year-old man was arraigned on three charges related to the killing of a teenage girl, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced on Wednesday. The charges are as follows: one count of murder in the second degree in the death of 16-year-old Madysen Denman of Yonkers and two counts of attempted murder in the second degree.

Yonkers Man Sentenced To 21 Years For Rape Of 14-Year-Old

A 40-year-old man was sentenced to 21 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl, according to the Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. Abdool Azeez was sentenced after a jury found him guilty in November of three separate counts of felony rape, the DA's office said. Azeez met the victim in 2013 while doing construction work on her grandmother's Mount Vernon-based business and home.
