Yonkers Mayor Encourages Motorists To ‘Slow Down To Get Around’ DPW Trucks

Waste and recycling collection vehicles got a makeover in Yonkers this week, as Mayor Mike Spano tamed with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to encourage drivers to "slow down to get around" DPW crews on city streets. On Tuesday, Spano was joined by DPW Commissioner Tom Meier in Yonkers to announce that they would begin enforcing Cuomo's "Slow Down To Get Around" legislation, which requires motorists to slow down while passing collection vehicles.

Cuomo Signs Yonkers City School District Reconstruction Bill Into Law

New legislation that will appropriate funds to construct and upgrade schools in the Yonkers school district was approved Tuesday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Sponsored by Assemblywoman Shelley Mayer, D-90th District, and Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins, D-35th District, the new law establishes the first part of a multiphase project to construct and renovate Yonkers public schools.
