As we look towards the June 23rd Democratic primary, our campaign is building momentum and continuing to engage residents with our vision for the Yonkers City Court.”“Despite the COVID-19 outbreak, our democratic system must continue in the face of this crisis, and I am unwilling to allow this virus to deter us from our fight for a better Yonkers City Court. My campaign is ready to assist Yonkers voters in obtaining an absentee ballot, and has a hotline set up at (914) 580-4114 ready to help.”

BUSINESS JOURNAL: Yonkers funeral director sued for $585,000 for off-the-books funerals
YONKERS: A Yonkers funeral director should not be allowed to use bankruptcy to get out of paying a $585,000 debt, an insurance company claims, because he embezzled from a former employer by performing off-the-books funeral services.

Familia had assisted former funeral director Donald Cranston of Haverstraw in performing unauthorized funeral services, according to the complaint, at T.J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home in Garnerville. They did not record the services or contracts, but kept the payments.
T.J. McGowan Sons discovered the diversions in 2013, and National Union, its insurer, paid a claim for $685,000….

CHILD ABUSE: School Superintendent Edwin Quezada Wants City Council President Mike Khader And His Democratic Majority To Fire 189 Teachers
Yonkers Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin Quezada wants to take the easy way out and eliminate teachers in his new budget proposal.
The Yonkers school budget is tied in with the city’s 1.24 Billion budget
Superintendent Edwin Quezada says he is facing many uncertainties with the global coronavirus pandemic and he must decimate the teaching staffs at struggling schools, even though the mayor is giving him well over a half a billion bucks.
Mayor Mike Spano says his half of the of this year’s $1.24 billion budget preserves city services and positions, but it appears that Superintendent Edwin Quezada doesn’t want to cut the fraud waste and abuse in the schools to save teaching jobs needed by Yonkers students.
Superintendent Edwin Quezada says he his yearly poor budgeting skills has once again created a multi-million dollar shortfall and he needs an extra a shortfall of about $22 million more dollars from taxpayers
The only good news currently is that the combined city and school budgets comes with a proposed 2.8% increase in property tax which stays within the state mandated tax cap, but Superintendent Edwin Quezada’s desire for millions more could mess that up too.
