The community board problem found in today’s New York City

By this time next month, the city's transportation department will likely be well on its way to implementing a traffic plan it first proposed to northwest Bronxites last May to make the Broadway corridor safer for pedestrians - and they don't care what anyone has to say about it. That's mostly because when representatives from the department came to the Community Board 8's transportation committee, they were lambasted by residents and business owners alike for a plan they thought did not address some of their biggest concerns, like double parking and 18-wheelers barreling in from Yonkers.

NY State Lawmakers Again Pushing For Voting Reforms

It's time New York state finally changed its antiquated voting rules and procedures that are perpetuating the state's low voter turnout, Democratic lawmakers in the Legislature said Tuesday as they announced yet another election reform package. New York ranks among the bottom in terms of voter turnout, a situation Senate Democratic Minority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, of Yonkers, called "extremely embarrassing" during a news conference detailing some of the 13 voting rights bills aimed at making it easier for New Yorkers to cast ballots.

Toys a oeRa Us is closing two NYC stores

Toys "R" Us plans to close 180 stores as part of the company's attempt to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The Wayne, New Jersey-based company is shuttering 15 stores in New York, including its Union Square Babies "R" Us, a store in Yonkers, and another location in College Point, Queens, CNBC reported.
