Mercy College Awarded Over $1.4 Million by National Science Foundation

Mercy College was awarded a $1.4 million grant by the National Science Foundation's Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program for a six-year project. The project will prepare 14 in-service master math and science teachers to become Master Teacher Fellows and leaders in their high-need school districts - Elmsford, New Rochelle, Port Chester and Yonkers - with a particular focus on recruiting teachers from underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

Sex Offender Makes Move From Elmsford To Yonkers

The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 71-year-old Arquimedes Mota, who has moved from Elmsford to an apartment on Bruce Avenue in Yonkers. The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Mota as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a "high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety."

Cab Driver Assaulted, Robbed In Westchester, Police Say

Greenburgh police arrested one suspect and are in pursuit of another that reportedly robbed and assaulted a cab driver in Elmsford early on Friday morning. Shortly before 3 a.m. on Friday, March 3, police were dispatched to a Mobil station on Saw Mill River Road, where the driver alleged that she had been robbed by two passengers she had picked up in Yonkers.

Elmsford Man, 20, Found Guilty Of Murder In Shooting

An Elmsford man is facing life in prison after being found guilty of murder for his role in a daytime shooting as a teenager two years ago. On Friday, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino announced that Dontae Degree, 20, was found guilty by a jury trial for a 2015 shooting that left one man dead and another seriously injured in Yonkers.
