Yonkers Public school Superintendent Edwin Quezada had previously submitted a budget that called for 170 district jobs to be eliminated.
After going into executive session School board President Rev. Steve Lopez came out of executive session to announce that resolutions had been passed, but offered few details and would not answer parent, teacher and union leaders.
School board members told parents that only Reverend Steve Lopez and Superintendent Edwin Quezada could speak on the resolutions that they voted on.
Parents and teachers were confused and upset with how this emergency public meeting was conducted.
Rumors were that Pre-K positions had been immediately cut and that elementary school teaching positions were next on the chopping block as 100% remote learning once again starts on September 8th.
Some teachers said that BOE President Reverend Steve Lopez and Superintendent Edwin Quezada were going to have them teach more children remotely – – thus further hurting children..
Previously, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced he was withholding 20% of the state’s share of education funding to Yonkers.
