MAYOR MIKE SPANO: “On this Memorial Day, we pay tribute to those heroes who laid down their lives to preserve peace, freedom, and the security of our nation, as well as the men and women of our Armed Forces currently serving at home and overseas.
I am proud that the City of Yonkers takes great pride in honoring its Veterans, recognizing them for their courage and commitment to the country.
As we all know too well, this Memorial Day is different from any other we’ve ever had before.
The parades, ceremonies, and gatherings that we cherish as a community all fall by the waist side this year due to a pandemic that has devastated our city, state, and country.
Although I am here to tell you, it has not crushed our spirit.
I was certain not to let Memorial Day go by without rightfully remembering our Yonkers residents who gave their today for our tomorrow.
This is why I held a virtual remembrance ceremony at Washington Park and a Memorial Day Motorcade Ceremony with military and first responder vehicles.
God bless you, God Bless Yonkers, and may God forever bless America.”
